Your granddaughter was interviewed by a professional journalist the other day. Her parents were there in the background and never noticed they were being filmed as well. A bright confident good storyteller Esther proved to be. And I remembered when you were interviewed many decades ago.
We moved from 136 Paritai Drive to 11 Nihill Cres in June or July 1970, I presume. Because I am sure we arrived in NZ in May of that year and spent some time at Orakei Primary before moving to Kohimarama Primary School.
The interview was conducted at our place in Mission Bay, that's for sure. And somehow I recall the journalist was the mother of a girl in my new class. Forgive me if I was wrong but could it be Nicki Meikle's mum? And they lived in Patterson Ave?
I hope I don't get sued or anything for indulging in old memories.
I don't know how long before it appeared on NZ Herald. But your smile, I have no doubt the best PR for Mitsubishi NZ, the best boss for staff and family back then.
Dad kept the original clipping in his scrapbook for like forever but it only took a blink of an eye for some nasty soul to chuck it all in the bin.
Off to Central Library on Friday. 2nd Fl. Research Room, going through reels of microfilm. Happens to be a free bus day after 4pm, yay! Thanks to Hanmei and Epi at the library. Shame on NZ Herald who didn't reply as they said they would.
Love you, Dad.
PS. Yuri had your article!
